BRAMPTON — Peel Regional Police say a 21-year-old motorcyclist died in a hit-and-run collision involving an SUV whose driver was later arrested for impaired driving.

At the scene of the crash in Brampton, media officer Laurie McCann told reporters that the SUV fled after colliding with the motorcycle at the intersection of Bovaird Drive and Yellow Brick Road early Saturday morning.

McCann said officers arrived and attempted to save the motorcyclist’s life but the 21-year-old succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

As police were investigating the crash, McCann said the SUV returned to the area and the 48-year-old driver was arrested.

McCann said the 48-year-old faces an impaired driving charge but several more charges could be laid.

Police say the investigation into the crash is still ongoing and Bovaird Drive will be closed in both directions between Main Street and Yellow Brick Road for the foreseeable future.
