The mother of a 10-year-old girl killed in an early July car crash in Binbrook has died in hospital.

A July 14 post on a GoFundMe page for the family reads, “After fighting for 8 long days, Julia has lost her battle.”

Julia, her partner Brandon, their daughter Grace and a family roommate were involved in a three-vehicle collision in the evening of July 6 in the area of Trinity Church and Guyatt roads.

Their Honda Civic was hit head-on by a person speeding in a GMC Sierra who attempted to pass another truck. The impact resulted in a second crash that the family’s car was in.

Grace, who had just finished grade five, died the evening of July 6 in hospital and her parents were both hospitalized in intensive care for their injuries.

A statement on the GoFundMe page says that “some of the funds will now be directed to funeral expenses for both Julia and Grace.”

Over $27,000 of the $30,000 goal had been raised as of the morning of July 15.

Hamilton police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate and is seeking additional witnesses. Anyone near the scene who did not provide a statement — or who may have dash cam footage — is urged to call 905-546-4753.
