Mother, father and their three children died in a house fire in Brampton

Three children and their parents died in a house fire very early Monday morning. Three others escaped the blaze but one of them is still in critical condition.

Brampton fire chief Bill Boyes says 5 people are dead from the blaze. “We believe the two adults are the mother and the father.” Nazir Ali and Raven Ali-O’dea along with their children Alia, Jayden, and Layla believed to be age six, eight, and 11.

Brampton fire say they got the call at around 2 in the morning and were met with heavy smoke and flames ripping through the home on Conestoga drive near Sutter avenue.

Officials wouldn’t say where the victims were found, but Brampton police add the parents and one child were dead on scene and the other two children were taken to the hospital where they died. Two adults managed to escape and one relative is fighting for their life.

The city of Brampton lowered all of its city flags to half-mast while the prime minister and premier expressed their condolences.

Investigators have yet to determine where the fire started, the cause, or if smoke alarms were working at the time.

The office of the fire marshall has taken over the investigation and is expected to be on scene for several days.
