Motel shooting prompts protest

A Hamilton city councillor is holding a rally in a park near the City Motor Hotel, where a shooting took place in september.

Sam Merulla is holding the rally to highlight the number of resources that have been used on the motel. He says the property has been associated with drugs and prostitution.

More attention was drawn to the property last month, after police arrested a 31-year old man for firing a gun and chasing a group of men with the weapon.

Merulla is looking at creating a by-law that would require businesses like the hotel to be licensed – but the property may be changing hands. There are reports tonight that a major hotel chain has put in a conditional offer to buy the property.
