Egypt is preparing for another day of large protests as supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi take to the streets.

The Muslim Brotherhood has urged people to demonstrate peacefully to defend the man who until Wednesday night, was the first democratically-elected president of Egypt. However his opponents say he failed to deliver an open democratic government.

The military is controlling the country, trying to round up as many as 300 leaders from the Muslim Brotherhood.

There is no word yet on when a new election will be held. Critics of the army’s takeover have called the move a setback for democracy in Egypt, but prominent Egyptian reformist Mohammed El Baradei disagrees.

“This is basically a measure to restore democracy. This is basically a measure … a reset of the measure that we need to take in order to go on the right track. We need a competent government to fix security and fix the economy, which is bust. So we are also deeply concerned and hope we’ll get it right this time.”

Morsi and other leaders have been arrested. About 50 people have been killed since the unrest began on Sunday.
