(Updated) The Egyptian military has ousted the country’s president and outlined its transition plan for the country’s government.

Mohammed Morsi has been replaced by the chief justice of the supreme constitutional court, and the military is calling for early presidential elections. Egypt’s Islamist-backed constitution has also been suspended.

The military announced its transition plans in a televised address that sent opposition protesters into a jubilant celebration in Tahrir Square in the capital, where they continue to set off fireworks and wave flags.
