American filmmaker Barry Jenkins returns with his sophomore feature in Moonlight. A trio of relative unknown actors – Alex Hibbert, Ashton Sanders, and Trevante Rhodes – brilliantly capture the spirit of one character during three different phases of his life. The unforgettable drama was an Official Selection at the 2016 Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival.

MOONLIGHT is the tender, heartbreaking story of a young man’s struggle to find himself, told across three defining chapters in his life as he experiences the ecstasy, pain and beauty of falling in love, while grappling with his own sexuality. Anchored by astonishing performances and the singular vision of filmmaker Barry Jenkins, MOONLIGHT is a groundbreaking exploration of masculinity — a sensual, intoxicating piece of cinema that uncovers deep truths about the moments that define us, the people who shape us most, and the ache of love that can last a lifetime.

“The title MOONLIGHT refers to shining light in the darkness or illuminating things you’re afraid to show,” explains Rhodes. “Everybody in life has had a struggle like Chiron’s at some point, whether it’s for a short period of time or an entire lifetime. Anyone who insists they haven’t put up a façade is living in some kind of darkness.”

Moonlight is rated 14A.
