Money needed for Lancaster bomber
The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is trying to raise $500,000 to keep its Lancaster bomber flying.
The museum says the plane’s 4 engines have just about reached their normal operating life of 800 hours, and need a costly overhaul. One of the engines is already being worked on, but the plane will still be able to fly this summer. Built at the Avro plant in Malton in 1945, Hamilton’s Lancaster is one of only two in the world still able to fly. It costs $5 to $6,000 for every hour flying, so if the funds can’t be raised, the plane will be grounded.
