TORONTO — Toronto police say a 14-year-old girl whose disappearance sparked an intensive search has been found safe after nearly two weeks.

Police made the announcement on social media and gave no other details about Esther’s case, though they are expected to provide more information at a news conference this afternoon.

Officers and volunteers led parallel efforts to find the girl, who police said had last been seen in the area of Bathurst Street and Hotspur Road just after midnight on May 16.

Investigators had said they were concerned for her safety, and last week upgraded their search to a Level 1 operation, which is the highest level.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Esther’s family announced earlier this week that a $25,000 reward was being offered anonymously for information that led to the teen’s safe return.

The spokesperson also raised concerns that missing-person signs put up by volunteers were being torn down.
