Missing fisherman

There’s still no sign of a Niagara Falls man who vanished on a fishing trip on Lake Erie two days ago. 37-year old Giuseppe Reinhart took his 4 metre long aluminium boat out to Crystal Beach Tuesday to go fishing and hasn’t been seen since. His empty boat washed up near Buffalo and his truck was found in the parking lot, where he’s believed to have left it.
“Our understanding was he was long line fishing, which requires the boat to be in throttle while he fishes. we believe he caught a fish leaned over to net the fish and fell over board.” Virginia Moir, Niagara Regional Police.
Niagara regional police and the U.S. Coast Guard have been searching by air and water for the missing 37-year-old. They believe the current may have carried his body towards the river.
Reinhart’s empty boat washed up on Wanakah Beach in Hamburg, New York, located south of Buffalo that very same day. Inside the boat, fishing gear, a few fish Reinhart had caught and two life jackets. It is not clear if he was wearing a life jacket at the time. According to his family he is not a strong swimmer.
Reports in the U.S. suggest Reinhart may have faked his death. In 2008 he was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the stabbing death of Jeramie J Gallagher. Gallagher was stabbed 11 times by Reinhart in a motel parking lot. Police say he was on parole when he disappeared, but say they don’t believe he would fake his death or harm himself.
