Mayor Ford to be sued for slander

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is being sued by a Toronto Star reporter for slander.

The defamation suit was served Thursday afternoon. It relates to comments Ford made during a televised interview with Conrad Black on Monday. The Star Editor Michael Cooke has said that in the interview Ford called his reporter a pedophile but Ford alluded to it instead of using the actual word.

Cooke terms Ford’s comments a “vicious libel.” Ford claimed in the interview that Daniel Dale was taking pictures of his children over his backyard fence. Dale denied doing that and a Toronto police investigation backs him up. In a story posted on the Star website, Dale says he is also suing Vision TV, which broadcast the Ford interview.
