Mark Carney to call early election amid tight polls and trade tensions

Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to visit Rideau Hall tomorrow to dissolve Parliament and launch an early election. It appears to be a close contest, with public opinion polls putting the Liberals neck and neck with the Conservatives.
For the last two years, the Conservatives held a commanding lead in the polls by as much as 20 points. The election comes as U.S. President Donald Trump continues to threaten Canada’s sovereignty and pursues a trade war by levying steep tariffs on Canadian goods.
