Many worldwide observing 40-day Lent with prayer, fasting and almsgiving

Many across the world are observing Lent, a 40 day season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving that began on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday.

Christians worldwide spend the next 40 days praying and fasting.

On Ash Wednesday they wear crosses of ash on their foreheads as a reminder of their mortality.
