Man wanted in Brantford stabbing arrested after standoff

Brantford police have arrested a man wanted for a stabbing after a standoff Wednesday morning.

Saturday evening, officers received a report that a 50-year-old man had been stabbed and another man had been threatened.

Authorities arrived on scene at a residence in the area of Dalhousie and Brock streets and found a 50-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds.

He was taken to hospital and treated for serious injuries.

Following the stabbing, police issued an arrest warrant for 41-year-old Thomas Dean Cain of Brantford.

At approximately 11 a.m. April 8, Cain was located by police barricaded in a Marlene Avenue residence, refusing to surrender.

After a successful negotiation with Cain, officers were able to place the man in custody around 12:30 p.m.

To ensure public safety, a local school was placed under a precautionary hold and secure during the incident which has since been lifted.

Cain was arrested and stands charged with the following:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Harm
  • Disobey Court Order
