Hamilton police say a man was sent to hospital with serious injuries on Monday after being struck by a Purolator truck.

Witnesses tell CHCH News first responders arrived on scene at King Street East, between Rosedale Drive and New Mountain Road, around noon.

Police confirmed the courier vehicle appeared to have run over the man, who was walking. The truck remained on scene after the collision until a service vehicle arrived to tow it away.

A business owner in the area told CHCH News the scene was shocking.

“The Purolator truck was in the middle of the intersection there, it did seem somebody was still underneath it,” Stew Jarvis said. “I couldn’t see too close because a lot of police and medics were pushing people back.”

Hamilton police say the driver of the vehicle was charged with careless driving causing bodily harm.
