A 24-year-old man is in hospital with gunshot wounds following a shooting on Hamilton Mountain.
Officers were called to a plaza on Limeridge Rd. near Garth St. around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say the victim and another man began shooting at each other after having an altercation.
The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries. The other man was last seen fleeing the area in a dark, four-door vehicle.
Police say the 24-year-old man will be facing firearm related charges. The other man is being sought by police and is described as white, in his twenties, and was wearing all black and carrying a handgun.
“This incident is not believed to be a random shooting and police are continuing their investigation into the connection between the victim and suspect,” said Hamilton police in a news release. “Police believe the suspect is still in possession of a handgun and ask the public to call 9-1-1 if they have information as to his whereabouts.”
The plaza and the neighbouring townhouse complex were cordoned off with police tape and a number of shell casings could be seen on the ground.
Members of the Hamilton Police K-9 Unit and Forensics team searched the area and found a firearm believed to have been used during the shooting.
Hamilton Police Criminal Investigation detectives will be in the area throughout Wednesday to search for evidence, video surveillance and to speak with witnesses.
Anyone with information that could help with this investigation is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Marco DelConte 905-546-3851 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
