A gun found in a bag at a Lincoln business in June led Niagara police to arrest two people on Wednesday. As they made the arrest, police say one of the suspects drew a gun on the officers.

Police received a call about the unattended gun on June 27, and eventually identified a man and a woman believed to be involved.

On Wednesday, they located the pair in the area of Dunlop Drive and Carlton Street in St. Catharines. When they attempted to make the arrest, one of the individuals reached into his waistband and pulled out a firearm.

Officers say he threw the gun away while being chased by police on foot.

Chessen Johnston, 30, of Mississauga and Shaqayeq Mezbani, 25, of New Brunswick were arrested and charged with 12 firearms-related offences.
