Man charged with assault in random attack of 70-year-old man in Hamilton’s east end

A Hamilton man has been arrested for the violent, random assault of a 70-year-old man in the city’s east end.

Tian Hui Zhan, 32, allegedly assaulted the man earlier Friday with a collapsible baton. The attack happened in the Barton Street East and Birch Avenue area.

The victim was sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries, including injuries to the head. Police say his condition has since stabilized.

Zhan has been charged with aggravated assault.
