Man charged with first-degree murder in Hamilton homicide investigation

Detectives announced that Marilyn Mitton was killed after being stabbed seven times in the upper body. Once she was dead, police say her home was set a blaze.

 

People living in a downtown Hamilton seniors apartment building don’t feel safe after a woman was killed and her apartment set on fire Sunday afternoon. 65 year old Marilyn Mitton was killed in her apartment at 200 Jackson street and her 7th floor unit was also intentionally set on fire.

66 year old Wayne Bell has been charged with first degree murder. Mitton lived in the seniors building for about three years. Bell lived on the 14th floor for about one year. Bell has a criminal record and was known to police, he was arrested Sunday evening.

Fellow residents have now started a petition to get security cameras installed inside the building, they say they don`t feel safe. So far over half of the residents have signed the petition and speak openly about their safety concerns especially following the murder of their neighbour.
