A 25 year-old father has been arrested on suspicion of child endangerment after he carried his 2-year-old daughter into the elephant habitat at the San Diego Zoo over the weekend.

The man was apparently trying to take a photo in the habitat. He passed multiple barriers and police say he purposely and illegally trespassed.

A witness video provided to CBS San Diego 8 shows a man dropping the child as they flee the enclosure as a trumpeting elephant charged at them. The man picked up the toddler and was able to get her out safely.

The accused, Jose Manuel Navarrete, was being held on $100,000 bail for investigation of child endangerment.

Police say after Navarrete’s arrest, the child went home with her mother.
