Hamilton police have arrested a man who they say shot himself during a botched home invasion on Friday night.
On Friday at around 9:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting on Steven Street between Wilson and King streets.
Authorities say one person was found to have suffered a serious gunshot wound and was brought to the hospital for treatment.
Detectives discovered a blood trail and a discarded firearm, both of which they determined to be associated with the reported shooting.
Investigators determined that the same individual who was discovered with gunshot wounds was responsible for the shooting.
Police believe the accused shot himself during an attempted home invasion.
As a result, 38-year-old Eric Haines of Hamilton was arrested and charged with the following:
“The accused has been held in custody to have his bail opposed,” Hamilton police say in a release.
