Man accused of smashing Halton police cruiser with sledgehammer

A 39-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly smashed a Halton police cruiser with a sledgehammer.

Police say a man entered the parking lot of a Milton police station shortly after 12 p.m. Saturday.

The man was seen wearing a bandana covering his face as he approached a marked Halton police cruiser.

Police say he began striking the vehicle with the sledgehammer and was immediately confronted by a uniformed officer in the lot.

James Stokes, of Mississauga, was arrested and charged with mischief and four counts of fail to comply with probation order.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
