Man, 63, dies of injuries after weekend fire in Hamilton apartment

A 63-year-old man has died of his injuries two days after a multiple-alarm fire in an apartment building in Hamilton’s east end.

The blaze broke out shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday on the ground floor of 70 Jerome Cres., just east of Centennial Parkway.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze in a first-floor unit and found an unresponsive man in a chair.

Emergency crews brought the man outside and restored his pulse. He was then taken to hospital in serious condition.

In an update Tuesday, Hamilton police say the man died of his injuries.

No other injuries have been reported.

Officers say the fire is not considered suspicious at this time.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal is now investigating.
