Man, 40, charged in New Year’s Day Hamilton restaurant shooting

Hamilton police have charged a 40-year-old man in connection with a shooting at a restaurant on New Year’s Day.

Officers responded shortly after 5 a.m. to Sankofa Lounge and Restaurant at 92 Jackson St. East for reports of a shooting inside of the crowded establishment.

Paramedics transported a female to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say she has since been released.

On Wednesday, investigators carried out a search warrant at a home in Binbrook.

Police then arrested and charged Germaine Gray of Hamilton with seven offences, including aggravated assault and careless use of a firearm, among others.
