Man, 26, killed in head-on collision in West Lincoln

A 26-year-old man from Welland is dead following a violent head-on collision in West Lincoln.

It happened in the area of Canborough Rd. and Baldwin Rd. around 2:25 p.m. Monday.

Police say the man was driving eastbound in a Chevrolet Equinox when he attempted to pass a vehicle in front of him. His vehicle then collided head on with a Dodge Ram travelling westbound.

Investigators say both drivers needed to be “mechanically extricated” from the wreckage.

The 26-year-old man was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. He was then transported to an out-of-region hospital via air ambulance where he later died.

The driver of the Dodge, a 55-year-old man from Canfield, Ont., was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Services Unit have been assigned to the investigation.
