It may technically be spring according to the calendar but it doesn’t look or feel like it. Today’s wintery weather system made for slippery conditions and hundreds of fender benders.

OPP say they responded to more than 700 crashes. There were a couple of jack knifed tractor trailers on the snow covered QEW near the Burlington Skyway early this morning. One car ended up on its side in Ancaster and there were several crashes in Grimsby.

Beech Motorworks in Hamilton had hundreds of people come in over the last few weeks to remove their winter tires, likely not expecting this latest blast of winter weather. Hamilton was one of the hardest hit areas in Southern Ontario getting more than 22 cm of snow.

The city says they were planning to have snow plows on their trucks until next Friday before switching into spring mode, but say that may now be extended depending on the long range forecast. They have, however already been able to start some of the spring clean-up like patching pot holes given the mild and clear weather we saw in March.
