A lockdown has been lifted at Cathedral High School following reports of a possible weapon Wednesday afternoon.

Hamilton police posted on social media shortly after 1 p.m., saying they were searching the area of the school in the Gibson neighbourhood.

Investigators confirmed students and staff remained safe.

Officers say the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board lifted the lockdown nearly one hour later.

“We thank everyone as our officers continue to maintain a presence at and around the school and investigate the information provided,” a police spokesperson said in a post on X.

Police have not confirmed whether a weapon has been found at this time.
