Canada’s broadcasting regulator is phasing out the Local Programming Improvement Fund by the end of August 2014.
The CRTC says the contribution to the fund will be gradually reduced until it’s discontinued.
As a result, the charge many cable and satellite companies have passed through to their customers, will be removed from their bills.
The CTRC believes the financial situation of broadcasters has improved and is confident these stations will maintain the same quality of programming without support from the fund.
