Lights Out is a psychological horror film directed by David F. Sandberg. The film is actually based on a 3-minute short film Sandberg made that caught the attention of the film’s producers including new horror it boy James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring 2). Starring in the film are Teresa Palmer, Gabriel Bateman, Alexander DiPersia, Billy Burke, and Maria Bello.
When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn’t real when the lights went out…and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged. But this time, as Rebecca gets closer to unlocking the truth, there is no denying that all their lives are in danger…once the lights go out.
“People have been afraid of the dark probably since the dawn of time,” says Sandberg. “It’s something even I feel in my bones. So, rather than deny that impulse, we’re saying, ‘You were right. You were right to be afraid, because there is something there.’ We took that fear and created a monster out of it.”
Lights Out is rated 14A.
