Prime Minister Mark Carney’s 2025 budget overcame the second wave of scrutiny Friday as the Conservatives voted with the Liberals against the Bloc Québécois motion.
The House of Commons held the second of three confidence votes in the afternoon, with the final tally recording 307 votes against the amendment and 30 in favour of it.
There was contention during the announcement of the result as a Liberal MP was supposedly not in his seat, which may have changed the numbers to 306 against the amendment, to 30 in favour of the motion.
The Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, along with NDP MPs, voted in support of the Bloc amendment.
The budget already survived a motion brought forward by the Conservatives Thursday, with the final vote on the full budget to happen on Nov. 17.
If the government loses that vote, the Liberals will have lost the confidence of the House, which could trigger a snap election.
