Liberals to introduce salary caps

The Ontario Liberals have announced plans to introduce legislation for salary caps for public sector executives.

It’s a demand NDP leader Andrea Horwath made last spring. The minority Liberal government agreed in order to get their budget passed and avoid an election.

The legislation would give the provincial government direct control over pay, severance packages and bonuses.

The Liberals are looking to the head of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan – Jim Leech – for advice on the pension plans at Hydro One, Ontario Power Generation, the Independent Electricity System Operator and the Electrical Safety Authority.
