Liberal house leader Steve MacKinnon named new labour minister

Government House leader Steve MacKinnon has officially been sworn in as the new minister for labour and seniors.

Mackinnon participated in a ceremony at Rideau Hall Friday morning alongside Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

He joined cabinet as the House Leader at the beginning of the year after Karina Gould took maternity leave.

Outgoing labour minister, Seamus O’Regan, announced Thursday he would be departing Trudeau’s cabinet for family reasons.

The full cabinet is expected to meet virtually Friday.
