A day after the Toronto Maple Leafs wrapped up a disappointing season, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment appointed Hockey Hall of Fame member Brendan Shanahan as the new president and alternate governor of the team.

Shanahan hopes to a turn around the Leafs who missed the playoffs for the eighth time in nine seasons. The 45-year-old Mimico, Ontario native will handle more of the business side of the hockey club. Shanahan played in over 1,500 NHL games for five different teams. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in November.
