Law Society investigating Hamilton immigration lawyer accused of abandoning clients

The Law Society of Ontario is making moves to suspend a Hamilton-based immigration lawyer over accusations she abandoned at least 12 clients with active refugee claims.
Her former clients claim she accepted their retainer payments but has not completed any work on their cases. She is accused of misappropriating at least $10,500 in client trust funds.
A tribunal will now be deciding whether Victoria Alexandra Bruyn will be suspended or restricted.
According to the Law Society, Bruyn has not cooperated with nine investigations into complaints they received against her between March 2024 and June 2025.
She is also accused of misleading the Refugee Protections Department by filing false information.
