Last day for mountain mail carriers

Today marks the last day that mail carriers will walk up to 36 thousand homes on Hamilton mountain.

As of Monday, residents will have to go to newly installed community mailboxes.

It’s the first area in Hamilton that had door-to-door delivery to lose the service, with a total of 110 thousand homes set for eventual conversion.

Residents of newer developments have always had to use community mailboxes, and Canada Post decided last year to provide the same level of service in older communities as a cost-saving measure.

The change has not gone over well with those residents or the city.
