Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue appeal for help

The Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue in Crystal Beach says time could be running out for the horses and other animals it cares for unless they get the help they need.

The Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue is a sanctuary for horses, as well as ponies, miniature horses, donkeys, a mule, a couple of sheep, and a pig. The animals were neglected, abused, or abandoned but they found a home at the rescue.

The rescue centre gives the animals a new life and a new purpose as therapy animals, going to hospitals, schools, and retirement homes.

Last Chance founder Sharon Wallace says the future is uncertain for the sanctuary, and the animals. Their landlord is selling the land they’re on and they need more than $1M to buy it by April.

“Where are they going to find another home? Who’s going to want a 41-year-old horse? Who’s going to want robin, that’s here?” Wallace said.

Wallace says it’s not just for the horses, but for her and the other people they touch.

For now, they’re fundraising with a Have a Heart for the Horses fundraiser for Valentine’s Day and will have an open house on Family Day where the public can see the animals for themselves.
