Lasota convicted in Firgan-Hewie murder

Rafal Lasota has been found guilty of killing Aleksandra Firgan-Hewie, a 13-year-old who was stabbed 37 times and stuffed in a garbage bag in Clarkson in 2008.

Today, jurors who had been deliberating since Friday found him guilty of first degree murder. but they acquitted his then-girlfriend Michelle Liard of the same crime.

Firgan-Hewie bled to death in Lasota’s bedroom; her body was left in a garbage bag in his backyard.

Lasota told his mother he’d killed a girl by accident, and his lawyer tried to make the case that he’d snapped under a haze of alcohol and drugs.

He now faces life in prison with no hope of parole for 25 years.
