Arrest made following large police presence in central Hamilton
Hamilton police have arrested a man following an investigation into a barricade at an apartment building Monday morning in central Hamilton.
Police attended an apartment building Monday morning, posting on X at around 5:30 a.m. asking residents to avoid Barton Street and East Avenue near for an ongoing investigation.
Investigators told CHCH News someone had barricaded themselves inside a building in the area. Multiple police cars as well as the tactical unit had stationed themselves on the street in front of one of the Indwell apartment buildings and restricted access into the area.
Officers posted on X at around 9:20 a.m. that an incident in the area had concluded and a man was taken into custody as a suspect safely into custody.
The incident on Barton Street and East Avenue has concluded. A male suspect has been taken into custody safely. Please be aware there will be a police presence in the area for several more hours but the roads and sidewalks are open. Thank you

There are currently no reported injuries and investigators say there will be a police presence in the area for several more hours, but the roads and sidewalks are open.
Indwell released a statement to CHCH News that reads, “the safety of those who live and near Indwell buildings is of utmost importance. We are thankful for the quick police response in securing the area and ensuring the safety of all Indwell tenants.”
