Labour Day Classic confirmed for Monday

The Labour Day Classic will be played at the brand new Tim Hortons Field on Monday starting at 1PM.

The temporary partial occupancy permit was issued on Sunday night just before 9:30PM.

Inspectors were going room to room before giving the final okay.

Construction crews had been working feverishly over the past week for the game to start on time.

The moment was exciting as a number of fans gathered at the stadium for the announcement including Hamilton Mayor Bob Bratina, who says he’s glad that the game will be played on time.

The temporary permit will allow for 18,000 fans to attend Monday’s game.

The upper deck on the west stands will be closed though as it is not yet completed.

Capacity for the stadium when completed will be approximately 24,000.

There is no word yet on when the stadium will be completely finished.

Originally the stadium was to be completed by June 30th but there have been numerous delays.

There had been concern after a fire broke out overnight Friday that the Labour Day game was in jeopardy, but crews said that everything is in order and they were ready to go.

On Sunday we also spoke with the hief building official for the city, and he said he’s extremely pleased that everything came together.
