Going back to school whether it’s for the first time or not, can cause major stress for kids and teens. So this week experts say to start setting a daily routine to get the everyone back into school mode.

“Making sure you get enough sleep. Making sure that you have balanced eating and continue to engage in social activities so that you have balance between your work or school life and your social experiences.” Dr. Tony Debono, psychologist McMaster Children’s Hospital.

He says the most important thing is to talk to your children about their feelings. That might include visiting the school before the first day.

A very small amount of school age children will be diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, just 5% to be exact. “We are still talking about a very small group of kids who experience really significant problems with attention over activity and impulse control issues.”

If you have even more questions you can join Dr. Debono live on Facebook at 7pm tonight. He will be doing a live Q and A about children and mental health.
