Kenyan refugee living in Hamilton fears for his life ahead of deportation

John Mulwa, a refugee from Kenya, living in Hamilton says he’s being deported, despite fears for his safety. Mulwa has been living in Hamilton for the past eight years.
“I came as a refugee, seeking protection from the government,” Mulwa said. Mulwa came to Canada as a refugee in 2014, leaving behind his family, and a three-month-old daughter.
“I came as a refugee, seeking protection from the government,” Mulwa said. He has lived in Hamilton ever since and currently works as a chef at Columbia International College.
A few weeks ago Mulwa received a letter from the government, saying his refugee claim has been denied, and that he will be deported to Kenya on Monday.
The 39-year-old would not provide specific details but says it isn’t safe for him to go back to Kenya and he fears for his life.
Mulwa is hoping on Monday, government officials will hear his concerns, and allow him to stay.
