When Donald Trump fired FBI Director, James Comey, it affected an Ancaster man awaiting an extradition hearing. That’s according to Karim Baratov’s lawyer, who was in Hamilton for another court appearance.

US Officials say Ancaster’s 22 year old Karim Baratov was hired to help a group of Russians hack into email accounts of journalists, government officials and others between 2014 and 2016. They allege a russian hacker was accessing Yahoo, and Baratov was given specific Google accounts to target.

Baratov’s lawyer Amedeo DiCarlo said he hasn’t seen any proof yet. He pulled up in a chauffered Rolls Royce and addressed reporters before court began.

Baratov was denied bail last month – that decision will be appealed June 5th. His parents had applied to be his sureties, they did not attend court on Friday.

The US wants to extradite Baratov and now his lawyer says Baratov might agree to go, if he gets bail. The US political climate has also affected his case, DiCarlo says.

The next date for the extradition hearing is to be set on June 16.
