Jewish community target of hate incident, Hamilton man charged

A Hamilton man has been charged after posting death threats and hate propaganda directed at the Jewish community since last September.
On Sept. 25 police became aware of several online posts — including death threats — towards the community.
The police Hate Crime Unit began investigating and arrested 32-year-old Harley Mitchell on Oct.1 for uttering threats to cause death and failing to comply with probation.
Investigators continued to review the online posts made by Mitchell and later completed a submission for further hate and propaganda offences to the Ministry of Attorney General for review.
Mitchell was additionally charged on Jan. 30 with advocating genocide and “wilfull promotion of hatred and anti-Semitism”.
