Jayne Hounslow, 8, identified as Burlington hit and run victim

A 21-year-old man has been charged in a hit-and-run at a school parking lot in Burlington that left an eight-year-old girl dead.
Halton Regional Police have identified the victim as Jayne Hounslow.
Officers say Jayne was struck by a white SUV in a laneway between Central High School and Central Public School around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The child was conscious and breathing when emergency crews arrived but died at the hospital a shortly after.
Officers say the driver fled the scene, but witnesses were able to report the licence plate. He was arrested nearby and a SUV was impounded a short time later.

Police say Jayne had just been dropped off at the entrance to the parking lot for a school theatre event Wednesday night. She was crossing the driveway when she was hit.
People in Burlington are in shock over the hit and run death of the little girl.
Throughout the day people placed flowers outside the school along with balloons, stuffed animals, and even a chocolate bar.
On Thursday, the Halton District School Board was providing counselling for children at Burlington Central elementary school and the high school next door.
Police say the 21-year-old suspect was charged with failing to stop after an accident causing death and say there could be more charges.
