It Comes at Night is a psychological horror written and directed by Trey Edward Shults (Krisha). The film had a surprise premiere as the closing night selection at the newly created Overlook Film Festival in Oregon. The cast stars Joel Edgerton, Christopher Abbott, Carmen Ejogo, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Riley Keough.

Secure within a desolate home with his vigilant, protective, and heavily armed parents (Edgerton and Ejogo), 17-year-old Travis (Harrison Jr.) navigates fear, grief and paranoia amid scarce resources as a desperate young couple (Abbott and Keough) seeks refuge in his family home with their young child. Despite the best intentions of both families, panic and mistrust boil over as the horrors of the outside world creep ever closer. But they are nothing compared to the horrors within, as Travis discovers that his father’s commitment to protecting the family may cost him his soul.

“Krisha was very close to autobiography and It Comes at Night is just as personal, but in a different way,” Shults admits. “I’m drawing from heavy personal experiences and placing it into a fictional narrative, hoping the same emotions come through. At its heart, this is a movie about mortality.”

It Comes at Night is rated 14A.
