Investigation launched into fire, vandalism at Milton school

Halton police are now investigating a fire and vandalism at a Milton elementary school and say the incident is being considered as an act of arson.

Emergency services were called to Bruce Trail Public School after reports of a large amount of smoke coming from a portable at the school.

Upon aerial, police and fire crews were able to extinguish two fires at that and another portable on the property.

Investigators believe the blazes began when a number of books and papers were deliberately ignited in each of the portables.

Officers say they additionally discovered “hateful” graffiti directed at towards the 2SLGTBQI+ community.

A number of pro-Palestinian messages were also found on the walls of the portables.

The damages have been described as “significant” and police say one of the portables will have to be replaced.
