Inquest into death of Barton Street jail inmate set to begin Monday, says Hamilton coroner

Another inquest into the death of a prisoner at the Barton Street jail will begin on Monday, officials say.

The supervising coroner for the Hamilton area announced in May that an inquest would be held into the death of Sean White, who died in August 2021 while in custody at the jail.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding White’s death, and will make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future.

Proceedings are expected to last five days and hear from approximately 12 witnesses.
