The Niagara regional police services say they are conducting a police investigation in St. Catharines Saturday afternoon.

Police posted on X just before 12:30 p.m. that they were investigating in the area of St. Paul Street West and Churchill Street.

A CHCH News reporter says there was a K9 unit along with officers in the area.

The police are asking residents to stay away from the area at this time.

The increased presence comes swiftly following a day of gun violence in the area of Riordon and Division Streets Friday afternoon.

Police have not said if the increased presence is related to the shootings, or for a different investigation.
