‘I’ll Have Another’ retiring after injury

Updated The Triple Crown dream is over for I’ll Have Another.

Trainer Doug O’Neill says the Canadian-owned horse will be pulling out of tomorrow’s Belmont Stakes. He’s retiring because of a tendon injury in his left front leg.

“He’s been doing great, (it’s) just a freakish thing and I think when you’ve got human or equine athlete everytime you step on the court or track you’re (subject) to injury and I was hoping and praying that he would stay injury free and it didn’t happen.”

“It’s still going be a great race tomorrow and we’ll be there rooting and hopefully a good safe run and hopefully whoever we pick wins.”

I’ll Have Another was in the running for the Triple Crown – an achievement that hasn’t happened in 34 years. He’ll now be going back to Hollywood Park in California.
