Ikea issues warning to anchor furniture

There’s a renewed warning to parents about free-standing Ikea chests and dressers, after a third child was crushed to death by a toppling unit.

Ikea issued a warning to anchor furniture and announced a free repair program last July following the deaths of two children. Ikea says so far it has sent out 300 000 anchoring kits to consumers.

In the wake of this third death, Ikea plans to expand its repair program, but hasn’t said how it would raise awareness. Consumers are urged to inspect all Ikea chests and dressers to ensure they’re securely anchored to the wall.
